Riverview Amusement Park Gone but Not Forgotten!
 
1904 - 1967 64 Years of Pure Fun Just Magic! author by Richie Zie
Riverview's Motto was "Laugh Your Troubles away." Billed as the World's Greatest and Largest Amusement Park in its time. In the late 1800's Wilhelm Schmidt opened a German sharpshooter park and picnic grove. The Schmidt family install some swings, rides and a dance hall for the ladies and kids that was an instant success Riverview Park was born in the first week of July, 1904. Wilhelm's son George began to expand the park with ideas he picked up in Europe and the Worlds Fair in Chicago. I Was very young when I saw the 70 - Horse Carousel "The Merry - Go - Round." It was a piece of art hand carved and painted by a group of Swiss and Italian craftsmen installed in 1908. I'm glad to say this ride is still in use at Six - Flags in Atlantia Georgia. I would love to see it again.
In the winter months of the early 1900's a ballroom and roller rink were added for
entertainment. The Roaring Twenties had an effect on Riverview in a positive way ie. profititable. During Prohibition beer drinking patrons found a continuing flow of beer.
This gave the Schmidt family the money needed to add rides and expand the park.
Chicago's Mayor "Big Bill Thompson" in the 1920's sponsored free children's day at Riverview Park he would pay the streetcar fare during the summer.
In 1926 "The Bobs" was added an 11 - Car Roller Coaster with an 85 foot drop. The most fearsome Roller Coaster in America at the time, it was the fastest on record. The Bobs carried 1,200 passengers per hour it drew over 700,000 rides each season. The Bobs was the most popular ride throughout Riverviews Park existence.
The 1930's depression hit Riverview Park very hard, as it did most of the entertainment industries. A devastating fire burned down the fun house and the
"Derby Racing Coaster." Even in these hard times Chicagoans continued to go to
Riverview Park. George Schmidt introduces the foot long hot dog. Most visitors opted to eat at the Bowery in Riverview than outside restaurants during the depression years.
The foot long hot dog was born and George Schmidt called the foot long dog filling and inexpensive. The 1930,s also brough Riverview's Motto "Laugh Your Troubles Away".
The 1940's brough more changes to Riverview after World War 11 Riverview became a very popular place for returning servicemen and women. We baby boomers from the 1940's and 1950's have increased prosperity to Riverview Park. Families had more kids that enjoyed Riverview Park in the 1950's. During the 1950's a coupe that met at Riverview Park were married on the "Pair - O - Chutes". All ethnic backgrounds enjoyed Riverview Park together. Times were changing the number of amusement parks in America in the late 1940's was about 425 by the late 1950's the number grown to over 720. For the first 50 years visitors came from all over the world because you could "Laugh Your Troubles Away" at Riverview Amusement Park. At night Riverview Park was just beautiful with all the lights lightting up the sky. I was very young and still remember Riverview Park it's etched in my mind. In the hot summer Riverview was a cooler place because of the opened space and the cooler air from the river on the west side.
Famous Rides at Riverview Park:
"The Silver Flash" a small train traveling on a wooden track. No safety belts,
No padding for your butt, just a grab bar that you did. The Silver Flash looked like a Chicago L train. No safety belts and No one got hurt. On the west of the park was the river No fence No swimming signs No safety signs, No one fell into the river.
I wonder Why? You think people were just smarter back then.
From the top of the "Shoot the Chutes" a 20 foot wooden boat that went down a 40 foot high slide into a small lake. For safety just a grab bar Nobody ever fell out or got hurt.
"Flying Turns" a Roller Coaster car that went free rolling in a topped chute. Gravity was your only safety harness that kept you safe. No one ever fell out. SCROLL DOWN FOR??

This ride scared me at a very young age. "Pair - O - Chutes" the seat was a single plank maybe a 2x8 hooked to 2 chains, that you healed on to 2 riders and one chute you rose up about 60 to 70 feet in the air and dropped until the chut filled and brought you down to the ground. This was the scariest ride I ever went on!
"Aladdin's Castle" was called the (Fun House) and it was just that fun.
"The Rotor" was a round room that spun until centrifugal force pinned you to the wall and then the floor dropped away.
"Sky Ride" was a little car on a cable it was the last ride built in Riverview Park
in the early 1960's. This ride cost about $375,000 Dollars, this ride never made money.
An insiders look into Riverview Park . Just for Fun!!!
People were hired to walk around the midway as shills with prizes, enticing people to play the games on the midway. Employees got to go on test rides and enjoy the park too. Their never was a set closing time at Riverview. Closing time was depended on the crowd
flow. The 74 acres of Riverview Amusement Park has a lasting impact onthe residents of City of Chicasgo. If you want to see a baby boomer smile say the Magic words
Riverview Amusement Park. This was Magic and it was from Chicago a great place to grow up. In it's 64 years riverview entertained over 200,000,000 people. Riverview employed hundreds of thousands people that made a living wage. This was a great time in America that so many of us grow up in. I hope America can do this again.
By the 1960's attendance was way off and the park was in need of over 1.5 million dollars
in repairs and renovations. Here is the bottom line why Riverview Amusement Park closed. Economic reason that was good for the owners on October 3, 1967 the Lasalle Street Investment Group purchased Riverview Park for an Estimed 6.5 Million Dollars
and our beloved Riverview was promptly demolished. To give you an idea of how money this was today this would be about 85+ million dollars.
I remember Riverview Park was pure simple fun something special just magic.
We all looked forward in spending a day or night at Chicago's Riverview Park!

  Simple Ways to Bring Down Gasoline Prices in America
America's oil is exported to China and other Countries for Higher Prices.
If we added an export tax on this oil it would not be exported. We then
would have a surplus,that would lowwer ourprice at the pump. Other
Countries charge us an export tax is this fare to Amerians.
In Illinios we have 4 blends of Gasoline. This costs us at the pump and
is not good for our vehicles. All estimate I have read state we could save
40 to 75 cents per Gallon of Gasoline if we went back to 2 blends of
Gasoline.Almost all other states only have 2 blends of gas we should
too.Speculators drive up the price of oil. End speculation that drives the
price by making speculator to own the oil their trading.
Or law makers can make this happen if they started to work for us and
not big oil and speculators. Please tell our Law makers about these
simple ways to save us at the pump.

Proof that Electric Cars Work and Why we don't have them on our roads
A sad story in AmericaAir Pollution in Big City is very Unhealthy in the
Summer we hear about Action Days.Pollution action days very high.
Elderly and children should not leave the house.We should refrain from
playig sports. Ashmatics should carey oxygen bottles with them. We
should all wear masks. This problem is world wide. Have you heard of
the solution? Lets travel back in time to the year 1996 and the
production of Electric Cars in the United States of Amerca the EV 1
{ELECTRIC VEHICLE 1} produced by General Motors and circulated in
the streets of California.The EV1 preformed Very well,and looked cool.
They were fast 0 to 100 KM/H inless than 9 seconds!
The EV1 was quiet! The EV1 produced no environmental pollution! The EV1 did not have a tail pipe! The EV1 could be easily charged with
Electrical energy in your own home / garage. Over 10 years later, these
cars of the future are gone! We should ask WHY? How is this possible.
You have to know that electric cars could not be bought. You could only
rent electric cars. We should ask WHY?
None of the leases were extened.General Motors reclaimed all the EV1's
despite the opposition of the users. Sad part of this story All the EV1's
were DESTROY! We should ask WHY? In 1997, Nissan presented Hyper
Mini electrial car. The city of Pasadence, Californa chose this car as a
vehicle for its professional officers. They valued these cars a lot
because they were very easy to use and you could park it anywhere
easily. They were very efficient for city driving. In august 2006 the leases
for the cars ran out. The community tried to buy the cars,,, Nissan, said
no, and took all the cars back and DESTROY THEM We ask WHY?
In 2003 Toyota decided to discountine production of it's RAV4-EV
( EV= Electric Vehicle)This four-wheel electic vehicle, this very high
technology product, was very much valued by its users since 1997.
The recharging energy cost amounted to $0.09 Cents per kilowatt hour.
The complete charging was $2.70 Cents In 2005 the leases on the cars
ran out.Toyota hurried to retrieve all these vehicles immediately you
guest it in order to... DESTROY THEM ALL! We should ask WHY?
Americans began to organize themselves! In an attempt to save the
RAV4-EV, they founded the "DON'T CRUSH".
America IT'S A GOOD THING TO ORGANIZE! Don't Crush exerted
pressure on Toyota for 3 months. They WON!!
Toyota finally supported and authorized those who had rented this car
and wanted to buy now. Never the less, the production of this model
was discontinued and no longer produced and the EV-95 NIMN battery
never recovered. Do you ask WHY? Here Is the answer!!
In 2005 the Chevron-Texaco Merger and bought the patents of the
battery for $30 Million Dollars and the factory DISMANTLED.This put the
big heart on the whole world. It's sick how electric vehicles are
Destroyed,but vehicles with an internal combustion engine are well
protected. America Wake Up! Big oil companies do not want the electric
vehicles to survive. "LOBBIES" see to that with BILLIONS of Dollars in
Payoffs. The sad thing is that WARS are being fought and PEOPLE
KILLED for fuel that pollute our environment all over the world. There is
not only the technology of electric vehicles. BMW has developed a
commercial car that runs on hydrogen. This is 10 years old We need to
ask when can WE Have it. Former governor of California Arnold
Schwarenegger drives a Hummer, which is operated on hydrogen.
The public was presented to the Genepax. The only car that runs on
water vapour. The water used does not have to be filtered. The car has
the ability to drive for 1 hour at 80 KM/H on one litre of water. I know a
car will run on water.
  STILL ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE THIS !
How is it possible that these cars are not available worldwide?
These cars would have had the ability to replace vehicles with internal
combustion engines for years. Water vapor is the only thing exhausted
from hydrogen combution vehicles. That means complete freedom from
harmful substances! Air is the only raw material being used-a free fuel
source! How cool is this! What would a barrel of oil cost then if it was
not used to move cars and trucks. Lowwer demand, droppes the price
dramatically. The price would drop if there were no speculators.
Do you know who is interested,that oil prices don't drop? Enormous oil
companies that control through the power of Money, the Legislators of
the USA and Europe! Families-Bush { former President of the USA }
Rockerfeller, Rothschild, the British Royal Family,ect..
Enormous fortune-sized industries, which are mostly dependent on oil.
I was at the Chicago Auto Show 5 times doing your home work. I think you should look at ELECTRIC VEHICLES

It all started with baby Jesus Christ! "And she shall bring forth son, and

He is our Redeemer. The Holy Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ'
mother was Mary. His father on Earth was Joseph of Nazareth, and

three-year ministry of teaching, blessing, and healing the people of the
Holy Land. He also organized his Church and gave his apostles
power and authority to assist in his work. Luke 9:1 What do we mean
when we say; He is the Savior of the World? The Redeemer?
Each of these titles point to the thruth that Jesus Christ is the way by
which we can return to live with our Heavenly Father. Jesus suffered
and was crucified for the sins of the world, giving each of God's
Children the gift of repentance and forgiveness. In short, Jesus Christ
saves us from sin and death, he is our Savior and Redeemer. In the
future Jesus Christ will return to reign on Earth in peace for a thousand
years. Jesus Christ is the son of God, and he will be our Lord forever,

Alice Walton and the 5 children of Sam Walton are worth about 250 +
billion dollars while almost half of the Employees at their Walmart &
Sams Club Stores are eligile for Food Stamps. American Tax Payers are
expected to make up what the family would have paid in Taxes because
the family is a "JOB CREATOR".
American Tax Payers are expected to pay for their Employee's Food
Stamps because the jobs they create won't pay a living wage and
benfits. Is it really so much to ask the "JOB CREATOR" in the USA to
try and get by on a few BILLION DOLLARS less so that AmericanTax
Payers don't have to foot the Bill for their Employee's Food Stamps. In

  The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can, and wisdow to know the difference
AMEN! The Serenity Prayer was picked up in a federal council of
churches book for US military chaplains and servicemen during world
war II. I hear it is still being used today.Thank God when it works you
don't change it. God give us grace to accept with serenity the in
that cannot be changed, courage to change the things which should be
changed, and the wisdow to distinguish the one from the other. Living
one day at a time. Enjoying one moment at a time. Accepting hardship
as a pathway to please, taking, as Jesus did.
This sinful world as it is, not as I would have it. Brilliant in its simplicity,
the Serenity Prayer is one of the key spiritual tool used by virtually all 12
step recovery support programs world wide today. For so many people
in desperate situations--seeking peace, strength, and wisdow-- those
simple words have seen them through their darkest hours. Millions

In the Spirit of the the Holiday, I'd like to take this opportunity to address a story of great significance from Chicago Ill.
Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer is the most famous Reindeer of All.
The story begins because young Rudolf was teased by the other Reindeer, because of his large glowing, red nose.
All of the other Reindeer, use to laugh and call him names and they wouldn't let poor Rudolf, join in any Reindeer games
Rudolf's luck changes when Christmas Eve turned foggy and Santa worried that he wouldn't be able to deliver gifts
to all the good children that night, former outcast saved Christmas by leading Dasher! Dancer! Prancer! Vixen! Comet!
Cupid! Donner! and oh yes Santa's sleigh by the light of his red nose.
Robert L May Created Rudolf in 1939 for Chicago's Montgomery Wards as a coloring book. In the first year of publication
2.4 million copies of Rudolf were distributed by Chicago's Montgomery Wards, it was a fun time in america.
Mr. May's brother in law Jonny Marks decided to adapt the story of Rudolf into a song, Jonny Marks was a radio producer and popular song writer. On November 25th 1949 the singing Cowboy Gene Autry recorded
Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. In one short month Rudolf went to # 1 it was the week of Christmas selling over
2.5 million copies. Since then, the story has been translated into twenty-five languages and been made into television shows and movies which has charmed audiences around the world.

  Holiday Tips for Pet owners.
*Keep in mind that pets, dogs & cats have their eyes on the feast. Note that the holiday season with its rich,tempting food is a busy time for veterinary clinics. Here are some suggestions for keeping pets healthy and happy during the festivities.
*Keep food and fancy wrappers out of reach of our beloved pets. Pets are known to take food and anything that smells like food from the floor, kitchen table or counter top, and trash bins.
*Resist offering leftovers. Rich and fatty foods like gravey, dressing and pie can cause painful and serios health problems. Don't offer turkey bones or any bones. The bones easily splinter and can cause fatal injuries.
*Keep holiday decorations out of reach. Climbing cats and dogs with wagging tails can knock over candies and decorations. Some pets may chew on decoratins that look and sound like toys.
*Plan ahead. Have some special pet treats that they love on hand, remember pets are a big part of your family and want to be of the holiday. Pet give so much love, consider cooking a special treat for your special pet.
*Google "Homemade pet treat recipes".
*Right before the party take your dog for a long walk, or just let them out .*Set up a safe quite zone for your pet, A new special toy or chewey can help a holiday stressed pet.

   Good Paying Job Plan for America!
You may be feeling some fiscal pressure and there doesn't seem to be a quick way out of our current predicament. It's not just about increasing your income or cutting your expenses. In this entire global financial condition you are just a spoke in the wheel. It's going to take a complete overhaul in the world to get back to basics, we can learn the answers by looking at history. Americans came back in 1930's and can come back today if we work together. In the 1800's Oil was bad by 1850 we used oil in lights and heating homes and business.Tax and spend is not the answer. Cutting good paying jobs for the middle class is not the answer.
Out souring middle class jobs is not the answer. In the last 30 years we last 30 to 40 million jobs in America. CEO'S making 500 to 1000's times what the middle class workers earn is not the answer.1900 in texas oil was black gold Texas tea that made many wealthy and put thousands of people to work in good paying jobs. By 1908 Henry Ford mass produced Automobiles that were affordable that ran on Gasoline this produced the constrution of roads, bridges, street lights,repair shops, hotels, dinners get the ideal.Today Billionairs cut and run, Cut your jobs and Run your jobs out of the country.Tax brakes for the the wealthy and oil companys is not the answer. Please tell me what wealthy person or

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine. and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group,flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet. you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but neverabsent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge
together.........

I realize the loss of a pet can be devastating, my heart goes out to you. Look up Rainbow Bridge on the internet it will make you feel some comfort. Provedence call at the end of the Mr. Kittty tribute radio show. About two weeks later she emailed me a poem she wrote that might be some comfort to you as it was to me.

No more tears my caretaker so dear, I have many friends that surround me up here. All day long we jump over the beautiful clouds that sit in the sky: my friends Doggie, Kittie girls and I. We all took a rest on a colorful rainbow today for a long while. St. Francis, with a dove on his shoulder and a bluebird in his hand sat among us. I slowly brushed my back against his deep brown sandals that he wore. He looked down at me with a smile and said, "Welcome Mr. Kittty."I want you to know... I have a guardian angel who is very kind to me. He reminds me so much of you..... I call him Richie Z Till we meet our loving pets again my heart goes out to you.
